The Pasadena Humane Society saw 132 pets go home with families on its first ever Pet Adoption Day, when all adoption fees were waived for the day.

The event, organized by Assemblymen Mike Gatto (D-Silver Lake), Chris Holden (D-Pasadena) and Ed Chau (D-Monterey Park) included the adoption of 29 cats, 14 dogs, one parakeet, one lovebird and one chicken.

“On an average Tuesday we may have 30 sign-ins, and maybe, four to five dogs and five to six cats adopted,” said Kevin McManus, adoption supervisor at the shelter. “We are extremely happy about the turnout and that so many animals found homes.”

The event was called “Gatto’s Gatos, Holden’s Huskies and Chau’s Chows,” so Gatto got to showcase a kitten for the day.
