Bob Andrews, Dec. 4, 1930-Sept. 7, 2012

Bob Andrews, a 50 year resident of Burbank, CA, died at the age of 81 at his home on September 7, 2012. Bob was born on December 4, 1930 to George W. and Nola (Cantrell) Andrews in Waurika, Oklahoma.
Bob graduated from Waurika High School in 1949 where he was Valedictorian of his senior class. Bob joined the United States Navy in 1951, serving as a radioman on P3 aircraft. During the Cold War, Bob’s squadron patrolled the Atlantic and Caribbean Oceans from their base in Iceland. Following his service in the Navy, he attended the University of Oklahoma where he graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
Moving in 1961 with family members to California, Bob worked in the Aerospace and Defense Industries. He helped design and maintain programs such as Apollo, the B-1 Bomber and communication satellites at Lockheed, North American Rockwell and Hughes Aircraft; often flying to Cape Canaveral for lift-offs!
Bob was an avid reader and had eclectic tastes in music with classical being his favorite. Bob enjoyed a variety of sports, from the Lakers and Dodgers to cycling and Little League Baseball. He was active until his death, taking trips to the Kern River with his nephew Ernie and he also enjoyed bicycling. Bob could regularly be seen bicycling down to the Senior Center in Burbank to meet with friends and enjoy meals. He will be missed by all.
Bob is survived by a sister, Janice Peck of Duncan, Oklahoma, and two brothers, Bud Andrews of Oceanside, CA, and John Andrews of Banning, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters.
The family will hold a private memorial gathering in his honor.
