Buyers sought for Habitat for Humanity homes in Glendale
San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity is seeking applicants to purchase three houses it plans to build in Glendale.
The three-story homes will be constructed on a lot at 806 E. Chestnut St. and will each be about 1,300 square feet with three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms.
In order to apply, those interested must attend an informational meeting at 7 p.m. on Oct. 3 or at 3 p.m. on Oct. 5 at the Adult Recreation Center, 201 E. Colorado St.
Applicants must be first-time homebuyers, be legal U.S. residents, be willing to contribute 500 hours to the construction of the homes, and be low-income. Incomes cannot exceed $59,650 for a family of three and $82,150 for a family of seven.
San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity has housed 34 families in seven affordable-housing developments in Glendale. The city’s Housing Authority, which consists of seven members including the City Council members, has allocated nearly $5.9 million for the nonprofit’s seven Glendale projects, roughly half of the total development costs, according to a city report.
The Housing Authority committed $400,000 to purchase the 7,000-square-foot vacant lot on Chestnut Street for the project. The total project cost is estimated to be $1.91 million.
San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity has completed 59 homes and 22 home-repair projects across its coverage area, which includes Sunland, Tujunga, Glendale and Azusa.
