Glendale police made six DUI arrests while conducting a sobriety checkpoint Friday night at Brand Boulevard and Vassar Street.

Of the 1,755 vehicles that passed through the intersection between 7 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. Saturday, 1,000 of them were stopped and screened, said Glendale Police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.

Three people were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, while three other motorists were taken into custody for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs, Lightfoot said.

In addition, two people were arrested for allegedly driving without a license and another was booked on suspicion of driving with a suspended license, she said.

The number of DUI arrests was up from the last checkpoint conducted at the end of June, when for the first time a sobriety checkpoint yielded no drunk driving suspects.
