College Update: Katie Park wraps up Occidental tenure with SCIAC run

The following are updates on local athletes at the collegiate level.

Katie Park (Crescenta Valley High, 2010) Occidental College golf senior: In the same arena in which she had made history, the former Falcons standout came up one stroke short.

Park took second at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Tournament on Tuesday at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont.

“Although I didn’t get the win, it was a great finish to my college career,” Park told the school website. “I gave away a few strokes today, but getting second was a solid finish and it felt good to make a comeback after struggling a little this season.”

On Tuesday, Park shot a 13-over 85 to finish the tournament with a 28-over 244, which was a shot behind winner Dalton Meade of Redlands and tied with Claremont Mudd-Scripps’ Shaina Raskin for second place.

Park won the first-ever SCIAC women’s tourney in 2012.

Park finished the first day of action tied for second at six-over-par 78, a stroke behind first-place Tiffany Gu of Pomona-Pitzer and on the second day shot an 81.

Adrienne Ingalla (Crescenta Valley High, 2011) Cal Lutheran water polo junior: Ingalla has definitely earned some due recognition within the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

On Wednesday, along with teammate and Burbank High product Jordan Card, Ingalla was named to the All-SCIAC second team.

She finished with team-highs of 42 steals, 19 assists and seven field blocks, while adding 13 goals and eight drawn ejections.

The All-SCIAC honor is the first for Ingalla, who had an even more impressive statistical season as a sophomore with 69 steals, 37 goals, 13 assists and 18 drawn ejections and drew All-American honorable mention, but was an All-SCIAC snub, as was Card, who was an All-American second-teamer.

Cal Lutheran struggled this season to a 10-21 record and a 6-5 mark in the SCIAC.

The Regals wrapped up their season Sunday in a consolation game of the SCIAC tournament, losing to Occidental, 13-9. Ingalla, an All-CIF, All-Area and All-Pacific League selection at Crescenta Valley, had two goals, two assists, five steals and her team’s only field block.

Chris Whitmer (Glendale Community College, 2013) Cal Lutheran baseball junior: After some struggles, Whitmer has heated up at the plate just as the Kingsmen have reeled off some momentous wins.

On Sunday, Cal Lutheran defeated La Verne, 10-5, and Caltech, 16-0, to wrap up the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season title for the second straight season.

Whitmer, who had not played in the team’s previous three games and was hitless over his previous three appearances, notched a two-run, pinch-hit single against La Verne and then went two for four against Caltech with five runs batted in, highlighted by a fifth-inning, three-run home run.

Whitmer, a catcher, is hitting .281 (16 for 57) on the season with a .406 on-base percentage and a .456 slugging percentage. He also had seven extra-base hits, 15 runs batted in, 12 walks and a pair of stolen bases.

CalLu (31-8, 22-6) will host the SCIAC tournament, beginning on Friday, in the hope of winning for a second straight year and securing the conference’s only automatic NCAA Division III tournament berth.

Andrea Kropp (Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, 2010) University of Southern California swimming senior: The Trojans swimmer was one of three athletes recently named a Pacific Athletic Conference 12 All-Academic second-teamer.

Kropp, a communications major, was joined by teammates Sam Adams and Nick Johnson and boasts a 3.51 grade-point average.

The honor was awarded on April 16, a little less than a month after Kropp’s last action.

The one-time Tologs standout was sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke ‘B’ final with a time of 2 minutes, 09.44 seconds, which was the 14th overall and earned her consolation finalists honors at the 2014 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships on March 22 at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center in Minneapolis.

Kropp’s finish topped her mark of 2:09.82, set at the PAC-12 championships on Feb. 25.

Michael Timpson (Glendale Community College, 2012) Cal State San Bernardino golf senior: Timpson was the top finisher for the Coyotes at the California College Athletic Assn. Championship, which took place April 22-23 at the Brookside Country Club in Stockton.

Timpson, in his best finish of the season, shot a three-round 226 (10-over par) to tie for 19th place, with a one-over-par 73 on the second day his best showing. San Bernardino finished sixth overall at the event.

For the spring season, it was Timpson’s first top-20 finish. He’s golfed 18 rounds with an average score of 76, which is third-best on the team.
