Sports Roundup: Crescenta Valley boys’ soccer continues torrid play
BOYS’ SOCCER
Crescenta Valley 4, Muir 0: Matt Ryan notched his second consecutive hat trick, as the Falcons scored all four goals in the first half to improve to 2-0 in Pacific League play with Friday’s home win.
Chris Sinani had a pair of assists, Jason Winicki added a goal and Tony Royer had an assist. Goalie Chris Mardiroussian notched the shutout without making a save, as the Falcons outshot the Mustangs, 12-1.
The Falcons (13-1-2), ranked 16th in the state and 42nd nationally by Maxpreps, won their fifth game in a row and remained unbeaten in their last 11 matches.
Pasadena 5, Hoover 1: The Tornadoes dropped to 0-2 in Pacific League play with Friday’s home loss.
Flintridge Prep 7, Rio Hondo Prep 1: Cole Rademacher and Daniel Enzminger tallied a pair of goals each Friday to spark the visiting Rebels (8-3) in a Prep League opener at Villa Parke in Pasadena.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Crescenta Valley 11, Muir 0: The Falcons stayed undefeated in Pacific League action with Friday’s road victory.
Crescenta Valley (2-5, 2-0 in league) got three goals from Lauren Busta, a goal and four assists from Hannah Weingarten, a goal and two assists from Arden Gonta and two goals from Courtney Ianello. Shelby Reif had a goal and an assist, as Ani Hemelians had two assists.
Rachel Bird, Sierra Lindman-Marshall and Samantha Phinney also had goals and Susanne Carpenter had an assist.
Flintridge Prep 1, Mayfield 1: The Rebels collected their first Prep League point of the season, tying Mayfield on Friday on the strength of a goal from Roya Gheissari. Prep is 4-4-4 overall and 0-1-1 in league.
L.A. Sacred Heart of Jesus 3, Holy Family 0: Goalkeeper Emely Palencia finished with 10 saves Friday for the host Gaels in a Horizon League match at the Glendale Sports Complex. Holy Family dropped to 0-4, 0-2 in league.
Burroughs 2, Glendale 0: The Nitros dropped to 2-4-1 and 0-2 in Pacific League play with Friday afternoon’s home defeat.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Hoover 43, Pasadena 30: The visiting Tornadoes picked up their first Pacific League win of the season at Pasadena on Friday afternoon.
Naira Serajian paced Hoover (1-1 in league) after scoring 12 points, while Luna Panosian added 10 points.
Crescenta Valley 66, Muir 24: Alissa Shinn finished with 14 points and Ella Stepanian added 14 assists and 10 steals Friday to spark the host Falcons in a Pacific League contest. Crescenta Valley improved to 12-5, 2-0 in league.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Pasadena 50, Hoover 46: The Tornadoes dropped to 0-2 in Pacific League play after scaring defending league champion Pasadena in a road game Friday evening.
Hoover, which has now dropped to 9-5, next plays on Monday at Arcadia.
Burroughs 59, Glendale 54: The Nitros are now 4-8 and 0-2 in league after a Pacific League road defeat on Friday evening.
