Crescenta Valley’s Major All-Stars lived to play another day; jumping out to a big lead and hanging on down the stretch to collect a 9-8 win over Arcadia American on Sunday afternoon at Sierra Madre Little League in the Section 2 Tournament.

“The highlight is it was a big team effort,” said Crescenta Valley Manager Brett Ramaker, adding that he used five pitchers and got hits throughout the lineup. “Everybody contributed, the team did well and we’re still alive.”

The District 16 champions began tournament play on Saturday afternoon with a 14-5 loss to Encino, having trailed, 6-5, before a late Encino burst salted the game away.

On Sunday, Crescenta Valley took a 7-1 lead before holding on for the victory.

Crescenta Valley will now play either Encino or West Lancaster in another loser’s bracket elimination game on Monday at 6 p.m.
