Sports Roundup: Crescenta Valley water polo wins first two matches in Mistletoe Classic

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Crescenta Valley in Mistletoe Classic: The Falcons opened their season with two victories in pool play action Friday at Westlake High.

Crescenta Valley began the day with a 15-4 victory over Buena that was followed with a 14-1 triumph versus Camarillo.

Sophomore Shannon Hovanesian led the Falcons with a combined seven goals and nine steals, while Katie Benson finished with five combined assists and Breanna Lawton also added four total assists.

The goalie combo of Gabriel Isacson and Maggie Connell stopped nine shots overall.

Elissa Arnold, Lynley Fernandez and Caitlin Connell all scored two goals versus Buena, while Audrey Taylor, Arnold and Lawton scored two goals apiece versus Camarillo.

Crescenta Valley next plays at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Newbury Park High.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Hoover 81, Sun Valley Poly 59: Teo Davidian scored 20 points to lead the Tornadoes to their first win of the season in the Campbell Hall Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament on Friday.

Jash Francisco added 13 for Hoover (1-2), while Ryan Barseghian (10), Ando Adjemian (11) Francis Roncal (11) all scored in double figures.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Granada Hills 53, Crescenta Valley 24: The Falcons were upended in the Falcons Classic on Friday night to fall to 1-2.
