Doris Elaine Jensen Woodall Dec. 21, 1928-Dec. 12, 2012

Doris Elaine Jensen Woodall passed away in her sleep Dec. 12, 2012, after a battle with carcinoid cancer.
Although she spent most of her adult years in the greater Los Angeles area, Doris always claimed herself a Utahn. Born December 21, 1928, in Brigham City, most of her childhood was spent on a farm in Corinne, Utah. She graduated from Tooele High’s Class of 1947 and attended the University of Utah and the LDS Hospital School of Nursing, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1951. While in nursing school, Doris attended a dance at Hill Air Force Base and met the love of her life, Dalton Noah Woodall. The two wed Sept. 18, 1953, after a 2 ½ year courtship while Dalton served in the Korean War. They had four children and raised their family in Glendale, California, where both served actively in the community. The Woodalls loved vacationing in Idaho, returning almost yearly after their first trip in 1958. They built a cabin there in 1989 that became a treasured getaway for the entire family.
Selfless service was the hallmark of Doris’s life. There was never a time she wasn’t reaching out to those in need, from leading as president of not only her LDS ward’s Relief Society, but as president of both the PTA and the Targhee Women’s Club. She could always be depended on to care for ailing neighbors and relatives. After Dalton passed away in 1990, Doris served an LDS mission in Macon, Georgia. Upon returning home, she split her time between Idaho, Utah, and California. She loved the temple and attended frequently.
She was preceded in death by her sweetheart, Dalton; by her father Howard, her mother Edna, and her sister Vesta.
She is survived by her children, Janet Howard (Dan), Howard (Betsy), Neil, and Tom (Shauna); 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; her siblings, Annalou, Wight (Carol), and Barbara; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on December 22 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 27827 Skycrest Circle, Valencia, California.
