A Glendale man and woman were arrested Tuesday on suspicion of possessing drugs, police said.

At around 12:30 p.m., officers were on patrol in the area of Maryland Avenue and Broadway and stopped a black Honda for alleged violation of tinted windows, which were partially down, according to Glendale police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.

The officer recognized the passenger, Raquel Guzman, as a known drug user from previous contacts.

As the officers attempted to stop the car, an object wrapped in paper was thrown out of the front passenger window, where Guzman was seated, Lightfoot said.

Officers contacted the occupants, Guzman and driver Shant Gulesserian, and retrieved the object, which was wrapped in newspaper, she added.

They found inside a metal spoon with heroin residue along with a small amount of heroin and a used syringe, according to police.

During the investigation, a second baggie containing methamphetamine, which was reportedly discarded from the vehicle, was also found in the street on Maryland just north of Harvard Street, Lightfoot said.

Guzman and Gulesserian are expected to be arraigned today.
