Following a humbling defeat on Wednesday, the Glendale Junior All-Stars rebounded in fine fashion Thursday night to stay alive in the Section 2 Junior softball tournament.

Allison Alzate pitched well in the circle and contributed two hits as the Crescenta Valley-Foothill-Vaquero All-Stars defeated San Marino, 6-4, Thursday night at Scholl Canyon.

Glendale will now play Granada Hills, which defeated the local squad, 22-2, on Wednesday in Friday’s 7 p.m. Section 2 final. Should Glendale prevail, it would force an if-necessary final on Saturday.

“Hopefully they’re gonna come out with a little more oomph,” said Glendale Manager Will Thayer. “They came out better from the start tonight.”

Glendale, which also got three hits from Emily Mulcahey and two from Catalina Alonso, went on top early, 1-0, before San Marino tied it in the third. The locals responded with a four-spot in the bottom of the third to take a commanding 5-1 advantage. Glendale withstood a San Marino three-run rally in the top of the sixth, scratched out an insurance run in the sixth and rolled a 1-2-3 stanza in the top of the seventh to lock down the victory.
