With just 15 seconds remaining in the first round, Sevak “Silverback” Magakian succumbed to a triangle choke from Christian “The Spartan” Giagos on Thursday night.

In the main event of Tachi Palace Fights 19 from the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore, Magakian was submitted at the 4:45 mark of the opening round of a bout for the vacant TPF lightweight title.

With the loss, the Glendale resident, who trains at Team Hayastan in North Hollywood and Main Event Gym in Glendale, fell to 13-6-1 with his third defeat in his last four fights. Giagos (9-2) won his third fight in a row and just his second by submission.

Both combatants were originally scheduled to fight other opponents before injuries changed the card.

Magakian went for a variety of leglocks, including a heel hook, toe hold and kneebar, but as is often the case with leglocks, put himself in harm’s way as Giagos landed a barrage of punches.

Eventually, the punches led to Magakian working into top position, where Giagos applied the triangle choke and coaxed the tapout.
