A 22-year-old Glendale man is facing a felony DUI charge after allegedly accelerating a car while his brother was sitting in its open trunk, throwing him from the vehicle and seriously injuring him, police said.

Officers responded to Dorothy Drive and Stocker Street at 6:17 p.m. Saturday where they found a 24-year-old man who had sustained a significant head injury and was later taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, said Glendale Police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.

While on the way to the hospital, the victim regained consciousness and told paramedics that he had fallen out of his brother’s car, she said.

A witness told police that Grigor Aghajanyan was allegedly the man behind the wheel, Lightfoot said.

The witness said the victim was sitting in the trunk of a moving vehicle at Casa Adobe Park, 1330 Dorothy Drive. Then, Aghajanyan allegedly accelerated quickly, causing the victim to flip out of the vehicle and strike his head on the pavement, she said.

A sobriety test determined that Aghajanyan was reportedly under the influence of marijuana and a depressant. He was arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Aghajanyan has since posted $100,000 bail and had charges filed against him on Tuesday.

The victim had to undergo surgery to relieve pressure from internal bleeding and remains in stable but critical condition, Lightfoot said.
