Jobless rates rise in Burbank and Glendale

Unemployment rates in Burbank and Glendale rose last month with local government educational services jobs across Los Angeles County taking the biggest hit because of school summer break, according to the latest labor report.

The jobless rate in Burbank increased by 0.4%, rising to 7%, while it hiked to 7.6% in Glendale, a 0.5% increase, according to statistics released Friday by the California Employment Development Department.

Statewide, the unemployment rate remained steady at 7.4% last month, which is still an improvement from 9% in July 2013.

The jobless rates in the La Crescenta-Montrose area and La Cañada Flintridge ticked up by 0.2% in both communities, coming in at 4.2% and 3.3% respectively.
