Man accused of stabbing another in Downtown Glendale
Prosecutors formally accused a 26-year-old man Tuesday of stabbing another man who allegedly made inappropriate statements about his girlfriend in downtown Glendale Friday.
Anthony Cardenas, of Glendale, faces one count of assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.
He was arrested about 5:20 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of Oak Street after witnesses reported seeing him leave the scene with his girlfriend, according to Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz.
Cardenas and his 19-year-old girlfriend, who is also a Glendale resident, were walking west on Colorado Street toward Columbus Avenue when they came across the man who allegedly made the comments, Lorenz said.
The victim, 31, also is a Glendale resident.
Cardenas and the victim taunted each other and yelled obscenities, Lorenz said, before deciding to fight.
The victim picked up a nearby road sign and threw at Cardenas, he said.
Cardenas pulled out a folding knife, which he reportedly used to stab and slash the victim on the upper torso, Lorenz added.
Police received numerous calls from witnesses who reportedly saw the fight.
The victim began walking away toward Central Avenue before he was stopped and treated by paramedics.
Meanwhile, police searched for Cardenas as they continued to receive calls from witnesses.
They eventually found him and arrested him on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
Officers also discovered the knife hidden in shrubbery on Oak Street, Lorenz said.
The victim and witnesses later identified Cardenas as the stabbing suspect, he added.
