A 30-year-old Glendale man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly brandished a knife and tried to steal another man’s lottery scratcher, police said.

Arutyun Varvaryan was taken into custody about 2 a.m. on suspicion of attempted robbery and vandalism for reportedly trying to kick out window of a patrol car while he was driven to the Glendale jail, according to Glendale Police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.

The man told police that Varvaryan brandished a knife and demanded he give up the lottery scratcher inside the 76 gas station in the 200 block of North Glendale Avenue, she added.

Officers arrived in the area and reportedly found Varvaryan hiding behind two parked cars in the 100 block of North Glendale Avenue.
