Detectives are looking for a man who allegedly tried to rob a cashier at a 99 Cents Only store in Glendale at gunpoint.

Police on Monday released photographs of the man, who reportedly entered the store in the 6400 block of San Fernando Road about 2:25 p.m. on Aug. 9, grabbed a bag of candy and approached the cashier.

The cashier began to ring up the candy, when the man brandished a black semi-automatic handgun, held it close to his hip and kept it pointed at her, according to Glendale police.

He demanded cash from the register, but she yelled for help, police said. The man then fled the store.

But that didn’t stop a witness from following him to Ruberta Avenue, where he entered a black Honda CRV and drove away.

The man was described as Latino or white, 40 to 45 years old, between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 11 inches tall, and 180 to 195 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes and wore sunglasses and a white bandana on his head.

Anyone with details about the man may call Det. Petros Kmbikyan at (818) 548-3987.
