Share

The school year is coming to a close for students in the Glendale Unified School District and with the sunset of lessons and homework comes graduation ceremonies and promotion events celebrating educational milestones.

Among these, the annual baccalaureate service for graduating seniors from Glendale and Hoover high schools that will take place on May 31, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 1020 N. Brand Blvd.

Glendale and Hoover PTSAs will honor their graduating seniors at the following times: Glendale High’s ceremony will be at 2 p.m., while Hoover High students will gather at 4:30 p.m.

Receptions in the church’s garden will follow each service.

A baccalaureate ceremony is a graduation tradition with roots going back centuries to England. In the United States, the event is a nondenominational service held prior to a school’s graduation date. This is an opportunity to congratulate graduates in a less hectic setting than the actual graduation day.

For more information, contact Kathleen Powers, baccalaureate coordinator with St. Mark’s Church, at (818) 247-2067.
