Roadwork crews ruptured a 2-inch wide natural gas line while digging at Colorado Street and Brand Boulevard on Monday, according to city officials.

A private contractor working on a Colorado lane-addition project accidentally struck the line at 5 p.m., said Glendale spokesman Tom Lorenz.

Southern California Gas Co. workers repaired the break by 7 p.m., he said.

No evacuations were necessary and there wasn’t any immediate danger, said Angela Fentiman, a spokeswoman with the gas company.

“Natural gas is lighter than air, so it dissipates pretty quickly,” she said.

Road work resumed immediately after repairs were finished, Lorenz said.
