Palmdale man arrested in Glendale for alleged firearms violations

Two individuals were arrested on Friday — one for alleged firearms violations — following a traffic stop for an equipment violation on a vehicle, police said.

At around 3 a.m., police pulled over a vehicle at Foothill Boulevard and Boston Avenue, according to Glendale police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.

The occupants were Juan Barragan, 34, of Palmdale and a 17-year-old male driver, also from Palmdale. The driver’s name was not released because he’s a minor.

There was reportedly a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, so an officer obtained consent to search the vehicle and found a loaded Jennings 22-caliber firearm in a backpack that Barragan said was his, Lightfoot said, adding that a replica handgun was also found as well as a collapsible baton.

Further investigation found that the 17-year-old was driving the vehicle without a license. He was arrested and released to his mother, Lightfoot said.

Barragan was arrested on suspicion of a variety of weapons violations. His case will be presented to the District Attorney’s office.
