Police pursuit ends with arrest in Glendale
Two alleged burglars were arrested Thursday after leading police on a pursuit through Los Angeles that ended shortly after a hit-and-run crash in Glendale, authorities said.
At 12:20 p.m., police got a call about a man, 29-year-old Elvis Kazaryan, who was spotted allegedly taking the license plate off his Chevy Equinox in the 1500 block of Railroad Street, said Glendale police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.
He had a passenger with him, Kristine Antonyan, 20, Lightfoot said.
As police arrived and approached the pair, Kazaryan reportedly sped off and a pursuit was initiated through the streets of Los Angeles and back to Glendale, where the Equinox collided with another vehicle at Colorado Boulevard and Adams Street, she said.
No one was injured in the crash.
The suspects continued until they came to an abrupt stop at the Ventura (134) Freeway and Harvey Drive and fled on foot, according to police.
They were both immediately captured and detained by officers, Lightfoot said.
An investigation revealed that Kazaryan and Antonyan allegedly shoplifted from a CVS store located at 3943 San Fernando Road moments before the witness saw their vehicle parked on Railroad Street, she added.
Officers also noted that both suspects were under the influence of drugs, and police later found narcotics and drug paraphernalia in the Equinox, she said.
Kazaryan and Antonyan were arrested on suspicion of burglary and possession of illegal substances, while Kazaryan was also booked on suspicion of evading police and hit-and-run.
Kazaryan is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, while Antonyan was released on $20,000 bail.
