Police to conduct DUI patrol

Glendale police will keep an eye out for drunk drivers even more diligently this weekend as they carry out another DUI saturation patrol.

The patrol will last from 6 p.m. Friday through 2 a.m. on Saturday in areas with high frequencies of DUI collisions or arrests.

“This is a zero-tolerance crackdown, so drive sober or get pulled over,” said Sgt. Harout Bouzikian of Glendale Police Department’s Traffic Bureau.

Locally, DUI crashes have claimed two lives in the last three years and resulted in 62 injury collisions, in which 86 people suffered injuries, Bouzikian said.

More than 1,884 DUI arrests have been made in Glendale during the past three years, he added.

“California’s roadways are very much safer today than they were just a few years ago,” Bouzikian said. “The Glendale Police Department will be keeping the pressure on through enforcement and public awareness so that we can continue saving lives and preventing injuries.”

Funding for saturation patrols comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
