Crescenta Valley Briefs: Quarterback Club kickoff, Crescenta Commons cleanup, Prom Plus picnic

The Glendale YMCA Quarterback Club will host a football season kickoff party from 5 to 8 p.m. this Thursday. The event will be held at Straw Hat Pizza, 3463 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta.

Attendees can participate in a raffle and silent auction to support the club.

Another cleanup of the small park called Crescenta Commons, which is under construction, will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at the corner of Rosemont and Orange avenues, La Crescenta.

Volunteers are needed to help with rock harvesting, a final clean-out of the bender board and clearing the path so granite can be laid down in the future.

The Crescenta Valley Library will host a walk-through of Rockhaven Sanitarium from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sept. 6.

The walk will include a history lesson on Rockhaven and its ties to women, rehabilitation and dignity.

Crescenta Valley High School's Prom Plus will host a 20th-anniversary celebration with an old-fashioned community picnic from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 6. The event will be held at Crescenta Valley Park, 3901 Dunsmore Ave., Glendale.

Attendees can purchase barbecue lunches and participate in "carnival-type" games such as a dunk tank. Admission is free and so are the games.

Youth can create recycled art starting at 1 p.m. on Wednesday and 10 a.m. next Thursday at Casa Verdugo Library, located at 1151 N. Brand Blvd, Glendale.
