Retired boxer arrested for allegedly stealing drill
A retired professional featherweight boxer was arrested Friday for allegedly stealing a drill from a parking lot attendant’s booth, police said.
The 34-year-old boxer, Vilyam Abelyan — who also goes by William — was taken into custody on suspicion of burglary at about 3:40 p.m. at his home in the 600 block of North Louise Street, where officers found the drill, according to Glendale police.
Abelyan, who is a native of Yerevan, Armenia, was a North American Boxing Organization featherweight champion with a record of 24 wins — 13 of which were knockouts— six losses and a draw.
According to police, Abelyan reportedly broke into the attendant’s booth in a parking structure in the 500 block of North Brand Boulevard and stole the drill. The theft was reportedly caught on video surveillance.
Abelyan remains in custody without bail.
