Mike Gatto holding on to early lead in Assembly contest

Incumbent Mike Gatto is clinging to a five-point led over challenger Greg Kirkorian in the 43rd Assembly contest. With just under 4% of the votes counted, Gatto, a Democrat, has 7,527 votes to Republican Kirkorian's 6,775.

Under California's new open primary rules, both candidates will continue on to the general election in November.
