Members of the Montrose Park Shopping Assn. will get back $50 if they pay their annual assessment on time next year, a gesture that comes on the heels of significantly improved revenue for the business improvement district.
The board of directors voted unanimously Thursday that all of the more than 100 member storefronts would be eligible for the rebate if payments are made by a January 2015 deadline.
A majority of business owners pay the minimum of $190, while only eight of them, such as major banks, pay more than $3,000, said Dale Dawson, owner of Mountain Rose Gifts and business administrator for the association.
A total of about $10,000 could be doled out if everyone pays on time, he said.
Board members said the rebate would be a nice gesture.
“I’m for anything that helps out the merchants,” said board Vice President Gigi Garcia, who owns kids boutique It Takes a Village.
The business improvement district adopted a $443,000 budget for 2014 in December, much higher than previous years.
Revenue from the association’s Harvest Market skyrocketed after the arrest of former city Councilman John Drayman, who allegedly embezzled at least $304,000 from the farmers market.
The board’s motion still needs a final vote of approval from the Glendale City Council.
