Update: Southwest and Jet Blue flights out of Bob Hope Airport affected by Northeast snow storms

Several Southwest Airlines flights out of Bob Hope airport -- including some local flights -- are delayed due to the heavy snow storms in the Northeast.

[UPDATE 2:11 p.m.: “A number of flights in the Southwest system are delayed mostly because the area they are going to or coming from are markets outside the West Coast,” said airport spokesman Victor Gill.]

The only nonstop flight to the area, a 9:39 p.m. flight to New York’s John F. Kennedy airport operated by Jet Blue, has been canceled, according to Jenny Dervin, spokesperson for the airline.

Gill advised visiting the Bob Hope Airport homepage to look up information on specific flights, as well as using Southwest’s mobile app.

“The traveler has to remember the primary source of information is the airline,” he said.

According to the National Weather Service, heavy snowfall was forecast to slow down Friday morning across the Northeastern states, but there will still be temperatures “well below normal,” the Los Angeles Times reported.

A total of 2,366 flights were canceled within, into or out of the United States on Thursday, according to the website FlightAware, which tracks flight cancellations and delays, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“The only other advice other than general admonition is, for anyone traveling when there are weather problems, even though you think you’re on a local or small flight, remember that the airplane is coming from somewhere else that can be impacted,” Gill said.
