Police arrest Glendale resident after suspected fake call
A Glendale man was arrested Sunday after numerous officers responded to his bogus call claiming that three gunmen had held him hostage, police said.
Francisco Casio, 52, reported at 4:12 p.m. that the men were armed with handguns and rifles when they entered his home in the 300 block of North Louise Street, Glendale police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot said.
He claimed that his wife was tied up, but he was able to escape.
Nine patrol cars arrived at his home and police immediately surrounded the area, she said.
Casio, who was outside his home when police arrived, approached officers and made allegations that didn’t seem to add up.
“It didn’t make sense to the officers,” Lightfoot said.
Soon enough, officers spoke to his wife, who appeared to be surprised by her husband’s actions and didn’t understand why he called police, she said.
Police searched the couple’s home and found no evidence of a crime.
Casio reportedly told police he had used drugs earlier that day, Lightfoot said.
Officers searched Casio’s pants and found cocaine in a pocket, she said.
He was immediately taken into custody on suspicion of making a false police report and possessing a controlled substance.
