Richard Alvin Gohl 1926 - Oct. 6, 2012
Longtime Glendale resident and esteemed chiropractor, Richard Alvin Gohl, 86, died at home on Saturday, Oct 6, 2012: after a long struggle with leukemia.
Born in St Louis, MO to William and Rose Gohl, who both passed away early in his life, Richard was raised by his aunt, Jeannetta Gohl. He served in the Navy during World War II then attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. In 1952 Richard opened his chiropractic practice in Glendale.
He married Tommie, the love of his in 1955. After 57 years of marriage and raising four children their love has continued to flourish and they were deeply devoted to each other.
For 60 years Dr. Gohl, a pioneer in the field of chiropractic and passionate about the value chiropractic care provides dedicated himself to his patients, the hundreds of students who studied with him, and furthering the chiropractic profession. Over the years he has been the recipient of numerous awards including The Lifetime Achievement Award from the Gonstead Clinical Study Society.
Richard was a devout Christian who lived through faith and brought enthusiasm to everything he did. He participated in a number of community service organizations including the Northwest Glendale Lion’s club.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly Tommene; daughters, Sharon, Carol, Diane; sons-in-law Kenneth and Kevin; grandchildren Anna and Timothy; nieces and nephews; brother Bill and sisters, Eunice, Winifred and Sister Ann.
He was preceded in death by son Gary and sisters Constance and Adrienne.
A memorial service will be held on Sat. Oct. 20th, 2:00 pm at: First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, 1760 N. Gower Street, Hollywood, CA 90028. (reception to follow: on-site)
