The agency announced a red flag warning on Monday morning until at least 6 p.m. on Wednesday for the Los Angeles basin, including the Santa Clarita Valley, Western San Fernando Valley and Eastern Ventura County, the NWS reports.
Brush and other natural fuels are dry from a year without much precipitation, Santa Ana winds are blowing strong and humidity levels are often in the single digits, said Mike Wofford, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard, in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.
La Cañada and Glendale residents can expect temperatures to reach highs in the early 80s Tuesday and Wednesday, with wind gusts as high as 25 mph Tuesday night, the agency reports. Gusts could peak around 15 mph on Wednesday night in those areas.
Burbank could see gusts up to 15 mph Tuesday night with lows around 50. The high in Media City will be about 82 on Wednesday.
