Second-alarm fire breaks out at hillside home

A fire tore through a hillside home Monday evening in Glendale, police said.

The blaze broke out in the home in the 1400 block of Marion Drive shortly after 5 p.m., said city spokesman Tom Lorenz.

The fire began in a small structure beneath the single-family dwelling’s wood balcony before spreading to the first floor, Lorenz said.

Arriving firefighters knocked down the flames within half an hour, he said, adding that they had to poke holes in the ceiling to vent out the smoke.

A damage estimate was not immediately available, he said.
