The following are updates on local baseball players at the minor league level.
Ryan Sherriff (Glendale Community College, 2011) Palm Beach
The former Vaquero responded to the promotion by picking up the win in an 8-4 victory over the Daytona Cubs after going seven innings with four runs (three earned) allowed on seven hits with no walks.
Staked to an eight-run lead by the end of the fifth inning, Sherriff held the Cubs scoreless through six, but began to flag in the seventh. Sherriff (1-0 with a 3.86 earned-run average) gave up three runs on a double, single and triple, as well as a fielding error before an out was recorded, but settled down and retired the next three batters to limit the damage.
Bell hasn't won since April 9 with four of his five starts since then resulting in losses. He went six innings for the first time this season in a April 30 start against the Fresno Grizzlies, but allowed three runs on 12 hits, including two home runs and still took the loss.
