Chapjian sparks Vaqueros to win

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Glendale Community College 6, Pasadena City College 5: Sako Chapjian and Erik Suarez each had three hits Thursday to spark the Vaqueros (9-2) in a nonconference game at Jackie Robinson Field in Pasadena.

Chapjian had a two-run double in the first inning to give Glendale a 2-0 advantage. Glendale starting pitcher Thomas Korn (2-0) struck out six in five innings en route to the victory.

MEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 7, Santa Barbara City College 2: The Vaqueros began Western State Conference competition Thursday with a road victory. Glendale (4-4) received five singles wins en route to winning its third match in a row.

Alex Sarkissian posted a 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 win for the Vaqueros, who got wins from Trevor Campbell (6-2, 6-2), Stephan Mamann (6-3, 6-2), Grayson Frazier (6-2, 6-1) and Dro Mahmoudi (6-1, 6-1).

In doubles, the Vaqueros received an 8-6 win from Sarkissian and Campbell and an 8-4 victory from Mike Astorian and Frazier.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Santa Barbara City College 9, Glendale Community College 0: The Vaqueros opened up Western State Conference play Thursday with a home loss.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Oxnard College 5, Glendale Community College 2: The Vaqueros (4-7) suffered a nonconference loss Thursday at the Glendale Sports Complex.

MEN’S GOLF

Vaqueros capture Ventura College Invitational: Glendale Community College shot a 376 on Wednesday to capture the four-team event at Crystalaire Country Club in Boca Raton Llano.

The Vaqueros won by four strokes over Reedley College (380). Ventura placed third (35) and College of the Desert took fourth (388).

Brennan Amirkhizi carded an even-par 72 for the Vaqueros, who got a 73 from Danny Fernandez, 75 from Jin Park and 78s from Aaron Fernandez and Chris Ramirez.
