Nitros nail down league win

BASEBALL

Glendale 10, Muir 0 (five innings): Daniel Aragon allowed just two hits over five innings to help the host Nitros pick up their first Pacific League win of the season.

Rafael Rios went two for two with a double and two runs batted in and Evan Norton went two for three with a pair of doubles and two RBIs for Glendale (3-4, 1-4 in league).

Arcadia 5, Hoover 0: Anthony Cuccinello and Eugene Kim each had a single for the visiting Tornadoes in Friday’s Pacific League contest. Hoover (1-8, 0-3 in league) made six errors.

BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Crescenta Valley 85, Burbank 53: The visiting Falcons had several fine performances at Thursday’s Pacific League dual meet. Crescenta Valley received a pair of wins from Josh Straschewski in the 110-meter hurdles (15.4 seconds) and the 300 hurdles (43.1).

Crescenta Valley’s 4x100 relay team of Calvin Edwards, Parker Averill, Levi Walker and James Maturan won in 44.9. Dylan Devens captured the 400 in 54.5. Maturan won the 100 (11.0) and Averill took the 200 (22.4). Bob Anderson won the 3,200 in 10 minutes 7.2 seconds for the Falcons, who got a first-place effort from Andrew Roide in the high jump at 6 feet 4 inches. Walker won the long jump in 19-9 1/2 and the triple jump at 41-2 3/4. Falcon Brennen Hicklin won the pole vault at 11 feet.

Glendale 73, Pasadena 49; Arcadia 94, Glendale 40: Mike Davis won two individual events for host Glendale in a Pacific League tri-meet Thursday. Davis captured the 100-meter dash in 10.8 seconds and the 200 (22.2).

Also picking up first-place individual honors were Siraj Landery in the high jump at 5 feet 5 inches, Chris Canlas in the 800 (2:03.5), Eric Amezquita in the 1,600 (4:51), Alex Sanchez in the shot put (37-5 1/2), Paul Archer in the 400 (52.2) and Tristan Pacba in the 110 hurdles (16.3). Archer, Jeff Massin, Canlas and Amezquita took the 4x400 relay (3:31.3). Massin, Mario Campos, Archer and Davis won the 4x100 (44.3).

GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Crescenta Valley 79, Burbank 57: Anneke Kakebeen won three events for the visiting Falcons in a Pacific League dual meet Thursday. She won the 1,600-meter race in 5 minutes 25.1 seconds and also took the 300 hurdles (49.3 seconds) and the 3,200 (12:10.9).

Crescenta Valley got two individual wins apiece from Tiernan Hebron and Maple Jones. Hebron won the 400 (61.1) and 200 (26.3). Jones took the triple jump at 31 feet 10 inches and the long jump (14-10). Cali King won 800 in 2:29.4 for the Falcons. Crescenta Valley’s 4x400 relay team of Kayleigh Carrillo, Noel Wong, Kristin Min and Jones won in 52.1. Its 4x400 relay quartet of Carrillo, Heather Robertson, King and Hebron won (4:13.7).

Glendale 81, Pasadena 38; Arcadia 98, Glendale 38: Sophia Amodia, Fabiola Naranjo and Shannon Cruz of Glendale each won two events in Thursday’s Pacific League tri-meet at Glendale.

Amodia took the 100-meter race in 12.8 seconds and the 300 hurdles (47.4). Naranjo won the 1,600 in 6 minutes 13 seconds and the 3,200 (13:27). Cruz took first in the triple jump at 33 feet 5 inches and the 100 hurdles (19.4 seconds).

Also earning first-place individual efforts for the Nitros were Linda Perez in the discus (69-8), Angela Kim in the pole vault (6-0) and Yajaira Hernandez in the 800 (2:42.5). Glendale’s 4x100 relay team of Phein Le, Amodia, Kenya Gaskin and Mabelle Denuna took first in 52.5. Le, Amodia, Gaskin and Lauren Hansen teamed up to win the 4x400 relay (4:17.9).
