Tologs fare well at prelims

SWIMMING

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in Mission League prelims: A slew of Tologs fared well Monday in the prelims at L.A. Valley College and will next compete in the finals at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the same venue.

In the 200-yard medley relay, Meg Ryan, Emily Balog, Katie Altmayer and Eva Dulcich took first in 1:58.92. Altmayer won the 200 freestyle (1:59.24), Ryan finished first in the 100 freestyle (56.12) and Balog took first in the 100 backstroke (1:11.14).

Altmayer was second in the 500 freestyle (5:12.88) and Ryan was second in the 100 backstroke (1:01.75). Monica Pernecky took third in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.01). Balog was third in the 200 individual medley (2:18.32).

The 400 freestyle relay team of Balog, Ryan, Shewfelt and Altmayer was first (3:44.56). The 200 free relay team of Dulcich, Claire Mudie, Pernecky and Haley Shewfelt was second (1:48.43).

“We are looking forward to Thursday,” Flintridge Sacred Heart Coach Steve Bergen said. “We feel like we are a better team than the one that finished third in league.”

GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in Mission League prelims: Four Tologs qualified Monday for the league finals, which will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday at L.A. Valley College. Rebecca Armstrong clocked 2 minutes 27 seconds in the 800 for Flintridge Sacred Heart, which saw Daelyn Moon, Stephanie Vargas and Drew Washington advance in the 400. Vargas finished in 57 seconds, followed by Washington (59.02) and Moon (60.70).

BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD

St. Francis High in Mission League prelims: Scott Mele clocked 23.58 seconds on Monday at the league prelims at L.A. Valley College. Mele will next participate in the league finals, which will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at the same location.

BOYS’ TENNIS

St. Francis High in Mission League prelims: Several Golden Knights competed in the prelims Monday at L.A. Valley College. Unfortunately, none of them advanced to the final.

In doubles action, St. Francis’ Gregory Pak and Daniel Gong came through with a 6-2, 6-2 first-round victory against a team from Crespi. However, they fell, 6-2, 7-5, to a team from Loyola in the second round.

Kristian Esteve and Alex Kavakian of St. Francis started off with a 6-0, 7-5 win against a team from Notre Dame. They then fell in a second-round match, 6-0, 6-0, to a tandem from Harvard-Westlake.

In the singles competition, Chris Grosvenor posted an opening-round 6-2, 6-2 win against a player from Notre Dame before suffering a 6-1, 6-1 loss to an athlete from Harvard-Westlake. John Kazangian fell, 6-0, 6-2, in the first round to a player from Crespi.

BASEBALL

Flintridge Prep 7,11, Rio Hondo Prep 6,10: Karlsen Termini had a two-run bases-loaded bloop single in the bottom of the eighth to lead the Rebels in the first game of a Prep League doubleheader Saturday at the Glendale Sports Complex.

In the second game, relief pitcher Cole Rademacher went three innings to pick up the victory for the Rebels, who improved to 12-7, 6-4 in league.
