Rebels tip off season with home win

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Flintridge Prep 50, L.A. Sacred Heart of Jesus 25: Tala Ismail had a team-high 13 points Tuesday to lead the host Rebels to a season-opening nonleague victory.

Flintridge Prep received seven points apiece from Gabby Zen and Tyler Faulkner.

Mayfield 58, Holy Family 26: Tabitha Ruiz finished with 14 points Tuesday for the visiting Gaels in a season-opening nonleague contest.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Royal 79, Glendale 41: Rene Saavedra notched 18 points and Vahe Aristekessian added 15 on Monday for the Nitros in a season-opening loss in the Burbank High Tournament.

St. Francis 73, Holy Martyrs 42: Kyle Leufroy finished with 15 points Monday to lead the Golden Knights to a season-opening win in the Providence High Tournament.

Markar Aghakanian and Evan Crawford collected 12 and 10 points, respectively, for St. Francis.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Glendale 16, Katella 7: Biyouregh Boghozian had six goals Monday for the Nitros in a pool-play match of the Falcon Invitational at Santa Ana Valley High.
