Roundup: Glendale college track athletes shine in prelims

WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

Glendale college in Southern California prelims: A number of Vaqueros competed in the meet, which was held Saturday at Riverside College.

Among those to advance to the Southern California Championships, which will take place Friday and Saturday at the same location, were Kelly Castillo in the steeplechase (fourth, 12 minutes 3.21 seconds), Elizabeth Nelson in the 1,500-meter race (first, 4:48.14), Lizette Gonzalez (first, 2:17.65) and Glindyll Mancia (fourth, 2:20.30) in the 800, Caitlyn Selve in the 10K (sixth, 41:33.53), Justice Shank in the high jump (first, 1.55 meters), Ana Tonga (fourth, 36.54) and Nicole Pappelis (11th, 32.04) in the javelin and Asiash Tuiasosopo (second, 38.30) in the discus.

Among those to move on to the Southern California Championships, which will be held at the same venue Friday and Saturday, were Edwardo Vasquez in the 1,500-meter race (ninth, 3 minutes 59.85 seconds), Marcus Streeter (first, 2.06 meters) in the high jump, Tanner Mays (third, 53.75) and Quaid Vuncannon (12th, 48.86 meters) in the javelin; Vuncannon (eighth, 42.86) in the discus and the 4x100 relay team of Rick Goulsby, Streeter, Jonathan Smith and Vuncannon (seventh, 42.45 seconds).
