Sports Roundup: Glendale High boys’ basketball pulls into first-place tie

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Glendale 58, Arcadia 54: Alex Miralis finished with 26 points and 14 rebounds to give the visiting Nitros a Pacific League win Monday. Glendale improved to 12-10, 8-2 in league to pull into a first-place tie with Pasadena with four league games remaining.

Eric Kirakosian added 11 points for the Nitros.

La Salle 65, Flintridge Prep 62: The Rebels (8-12) dropped a nonleague home contest Monday. Dante Fregoso and Jake Althouse finished with 21 and 16 points, respectively, for Flintridge Prep.

On Saturday, Flintridge Prep fell, 55-46, to Rowland in a Southern California Shootout contest at Azusa Pacific University. Fregoso finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, Althouse added 12 points and seven rebounds and Miles Johnson had six points and 10 rebounds.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 47, St. Francis 33: Michael Ibarra paced the host Golden Knights with 15 points. The Golden Knights fell to 9-13, 0-8 in league.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Hoover 44, Muir 31: Host Hoover picked up a Pacific League win Monday. Hoover improved to 6-13, 3-7 in league.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Crescenta Valley 2, Burbank 0: Justin Wright and Kevin Ginosian scored one goal apiece Monday to lift the visiting Falcons to a Pacific League win at Luther Middle School.

On Saturday, Crescenta Valley finished in a 1-1 deadlock against Burroughs in a league home match. Jason Winicki scored off a Justin Wright assist. Crescenta Valley improved to 7-8-5, 4-3-3 in league and is 4-0-2 over its last six matches.

St. Francis 1, Crespi 0: Neil Markey scored off a pass from Clayton Green with about 25 minutes remaining to give the host Golden Knights a Mission League win Monday. St. Francis improved to 8-6-4, 3-2-3 in league.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Crescenta Valley 2, Burbank 1: Host Crescenta Valley earned a Pacific League victory Monday. The Falcons are 7-7-1, 7-2 in league.

Hoover 6, Muir 0: Jordan Miller notched three goals and Remi Miller added two on Monday to spur the Tornadoes to a Pacific League road win. Mary Deyell had one goal for Hoover (7-12-1, 4-5-1 in league).

Arcadia 3, Glendale 0: The host Nitros suffered a Pacific League defeat Monday. Glendale dipped to 2-10-2, 2-6-2 in league.

Alverno 4, Holy Family 0: The Gaels fell Monday in an Horizon League match.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Glendale Community College 70, West L.A. College 64: Samantha Pyros finished with 28 points and 11 rebounds Saturday to ignite the visiting Vaqueros to a Western State Conference South Division win. Natalie Gutierrez collected 24 points for Glendale (10-12, 5-3 in the division).

MEN’S BASKETBALL

West Los Angeles 57, Glendale Community College 55: The Vaqueros lost a close one Saturday afternoon in a Western State Conference Southern Division road game. Glendale fell to 3-16, 2-6 in the division.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Glendale Community College at Dave “Hawk” Wilder Tournament: The Vaqueros (3-2) collected a pair of victories Saturday at the Glendale Sports Complex. Glendale recorded a 3-0 win against Rio Hondo before wrapping up the event with a 3-1 victory against Ventura. The Vaqueros began the tournament with a 6-0 loss to Palomar before earning a 4-2 win against San Diego Mesa.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Rio Hondo College 4, Glendale Community College 3: The Vaqueros fell to 0-3 on the season with Saturday’s nonconference defeat on the road.

Glendale has its home opener Tuesday against Pierce at 2 p.m.
