Sports Roundup: Crescenta Valley High boys’ cross-country team runs to victory

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Crescenta Valley in quad meet: The Falcons finished first in a nonleague race Thursday with 19 points at Peppertree Park in Newbury Park. Manav Vats of Crescenta Valley finished first in 16 minutes 6.50 seconds. The Falcons also had six other runners earn top-10 finishes: Colin Fitzgerald (second, 16:13.18), Armin Cardenas-Nuno (third, 16:17.41), Kyle Dickinson (sixth, 16:26), Jason Crosthwaite (seventh, 16:37.18), Silas Fitzgerald (ninth, 16:39.46) and Philip Thomas (10th, 16:41.53).

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Crescenta Valley in quad meet: Crescenta Valley took second in a nonleague event Thursday at Peppertree Park in Newbury Park. The Falcons had 39 points and Newbury Park finished with 39.

Haley Witzeman of Crescenta Valley clocked 18 minutes 38 seconds to win the race. Teammate Megan Melnyk took second (19:10.28). Annie Myers had a mark of 19:56.28 to place eighth for the Falcons, who saw Grace McAuley take 10th (20:25.66) and McKenna Middleton finish 18th (21:09.38).

Flintridge Prep at Phil Ryan Invitational: In a match-up of regional powers, the Rebels upset upper-divisional host San Marino, 27-33, on Thursday afternoon at Lacy Park.

The Rebels took the top two positions in the junior varsity/varsity race as Flintridge Prep’s Ashley Lara was victorious in 18 minutes, 48.96 seconds and was followed by teammate and runner-up Natalie O’Brien (18:53.23).

Maia Cohen took fourth (20:28.99), while Lacy Coan was sixth (21:04.15) and Sarah Kersting earned 18th (23:35.91).

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Hoover 14, Culver City 7: The host Tornadoes (4-1) posted a nonleague victory Thursday.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Harvard-Westlake 219, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 252: Stanley Galanto finished with an 11-over-par 47 on Thursday for the Tologs in a Mission League match at Encino Golf Course.
