Sports Roundup: Glendale Community College women earn silver at Fresno Invitational

WOMEN’S CROSS-COUNTRY
Glendale Community College at Fresno Invitational: Glendale finished second Saturday, with Western State Conference nemesis College of the Canyons winning, 44-64.

Glendale’s Jassmine Macon finished third on the 3.10-mile run in 19 minutes 5.09 seconds.

Macon was followed in by Mariah Ayala, who took ninth in 19:12.87. Tallying a 12th-place finish was Concepcion Flores in 19:27.27 with Glindyll Mancia taking 16th at 19:38.58 and Stacy Macias rounding out the scoring five with a 24th-place run in 20:04.11.

MEN’S CROSS-COUNTRY
Glendale Community College at Fresno Invitational: In a race won by Western State Conference-rival College of the Canyons with 64 points, the Vaqueros took sixth with 189 points.

Glendale’s top finisher was Vahagn Isayan at 21st, covering the four-mile course in 21 minutes 24.95 seconds. Thereafter, the Vaqueros’ scoring five finished in a pack with Rory Norman (41st, 22:03.03), Luis Celaya (43rd, 22:05.29), Matthew Manalo (50th, 22:19.96) and Eros Velasquez (56th, 22:29.68) coming across.

MEN’ S SOCCER
Glendale Community College 0, Fullerton 0: The search for the season’s first victory continues for the Vaqueros.

Glendale came close, but settled for its second tie in four matches Friday evening versus visiting Fullerton.

With the tie, the Vaqueros are now 0-2-2.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Glendale Community College 0, Grossmont College 0: The Vaqueros opened their season Friday evening with a tie at home in Western State Conference action.

Glendale is back in action Tuesday at College of the Desert.

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY
Flintridge Prep at Cal Poly Bronco Invitational: Despite hailing from Division V, the Rebels more than held their own at Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday afternoon.

As a team, the Rebels finished fourth with 84 points, just off the pace of South Hills (82), Newport Harbor (75) and Brea Olinda (69).

Sophomore Natalie O’Brien took fourth, finishing with a mark of 18 minutes, 32.9 seconds.

O’Brien led a scoring squad that consisted of Ashley Lara (sixth, 18:47.6), Maia Cohen (21st, 19:58.5), Lacy Coan (24th, 20:07.2) and Marissa Langley (39th, 21:28.4).

BOYS’ WATER POLO
Flintridge Prep 9, Pasadena 6: The Rebels continued their role through the San Marino Tournament by winning their third game, this in the tournament semifinals Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, Flintridge Prep (4-0) earned advancement to the tournament championship game Saturday evening.

GIRLS’ TENNIS
Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 12, Flintridge Prep 6: In the intracity battle, it was the Tologs who came out on top with a victory at Scholl Canyon on Friday.

Singles players Crystal Juan and Suzie Kim tallied all the points and victories for the Rebels (0-2) in going 3-0 each.

Flintridge Sacred Heart improved to 2-2.

A day earlier, the Rebels fell to Burbank 15-3, with Juan picking up two wins and Kim earning a victory.
