Sports roundup: St. Francis golf downs Crescenta Valley
BOYS’ GOLF
St. Francis 190, Crescenta Valley 208: The Golden Knights picked up a nonleague victory Thursday at Brookside Golf Course No. 1. Michael Finny had an even-par 36 for St. Francis, which got a 37 from Johnny Brandt, a 38 from Joe Sarni and 39 from Stian Lintvedt . Paul Park had a 39 to lead the Falcons.
Flintridge Prep 243, Temple City 256: Jonah Sacks had a six-over-par 42 on Thursday for the host Rebels (2-0) in a nonleague match.
TENNIS
Hoover 12, Burroughs 6: The visiting Tornadoes posted a Pacific League road win Thursday. Hoover (3-3, 2-1 in league) got a sweep in doubles from Danny Kim and Artur Arutunyan (6-1, 6-0, 6-1). Emile Ohanyan won two sets (6-0, 6-0) for Hoover.
St. Francis 11, Hart 7: St. Francis started its season Wednesday with a nonleague win.
BASEBALL
Oxnard Pacifica 5, Glendale 4 (eight innings): The Nitros fell to 1-2 on the season with Thursday’s nonleague loss, as both Nitros defeats have come by one run.
Sean Harris had three doubles and Thad Wilson had three hits.
On Wednesday, the Nitros defeated Garfield, 5-3, to notch their first victory of the season and the first under Alan Eberhart.
Brandon Keen had a pair of hits in the win, Eric Winner had a key double and Jav Aguayo got the victory.
Golden Valley 7, Hoover 3: Jonathan Ramos finished with two hits Thursday for the host Tornadoes (2-1) in a Southern California Invitational Tournament contest.
Northview 5, Crescenta Valley 0: The Falcons fell to 1-1 on the season with Thursday night’s nonleague loss at Stengel Field.
SOFTBALL
Crescenta Valley 11, Hacienda Heights Wilson 0 (five innings): Olivia Thayer had a home run and three runs batted in at the plate and threw three no-hit innings, while striking out seven in Thursday’s lopsided road victory.
The Falcons (1-1) also got home runs from Hannah Cookson and Taylor Hill, with Hill driving in five runs and scoring two. Rachel Abboud also had two hits, a run and RBI and Adela Alatraca threw two scoreless innings of relief.
Marlborough 7, Glendale 6: Freshman catcher Tiffany Bartamian had two home runs in her high school debut, as the Nitros rallied from six runs down to tie it at 6 in the fifth, but eventually fell in their season opener on Thursday.
Sierra Canyon 6, Flintridge Prep 5: Kyla Bradley and Drew Montgomery each had two hits and one stolen base Thursday for the host Rebels (2-1) in a nonleague game. The Rebels earned a 5-2 win against Rowland on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Flintridge Prep opened its season with a 15-11 victory against Malibu. Montgomery had three hits, drove in three runs and stole two bases and Alex Tutwiler had three hits and two RBI.
GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD
Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 110, Chaminade 13: The Tologs kicked off their season with a dominant Mission League road victory on Wednesday afternoon.
Flintridge Sacred Heart won every event except the pole vault and had a few standout performances, led by the trio of junior Kayla Grahn, sophomore Holly MacVaugh and freshman Nia Harris.
MacVaugh took first in the 100-meter low hurdles (19.23 seconds) and 300 hurdles (52.95), while also finishing second in the high jump and shot put.
Grahn took home victories in the 1,600 (5:37.1) and the 3,200 (12:25.2), while Harris won the 100-meter sprint (12.93) in her high school debut.
The Tologs 400-meter relay squad of Harris, Kristian Mathews, Ella Gmelich and Kayla Montgomery also won their event in 51.93.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Glendale Community College 6, Santa Monica College 5: Cassandra Soto had a game-winning RBI single with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to spark the host Vaqueros on Thursday in a Western State Conference Blue Division opener at the Glendale Sports Complex. Glendale (6-6) got two doubles from Jocelyn Zavala, who scored the winning run.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Glendale Community College 9, West L.A. 0: Host Glendale earned a Western State Conference South Division win Thursday at Stengel Field. Vaqueros starting pitcher AJ Monarrez went six innings, striking out six and yielding three hits. Glendale (6-7, 1-1 in the division) received three hits from Dylan Trimarchi.
