Suspect in custody after small brush fire breaks out near Glendale Sports Complex
One male suspect is in custody after a small brush fire broke out Friday afternoon south of the Glendale Sports Complex, authorities report.
An initial call came in to the California Highway Patrol at 12:55 p.m. of a fire east of the Glendale (2) Freeway.
The first-alarm fire was transferred to the Glendale Fire Department, which responded alongside the Los Angeles County Fire Department with two county hand crews and air support on the scene, according to Glendale Fire Chief Harold Scoggins.
The suspect was detained by firefighters on one of the roads above the fire, said Glendale spokesman Tom Lorenz.
“The suspect is currently in police custody, and they are trying to determine whether or not it was a fire that was intentionally set,” he said.
No injuries or evacuations were reported, and the fire did not affect any structures.
The fire was contained by about 2:45 p.m, with crews working to make sure there were no stubborm embers that would reignite the flames, Lorenz said.
