Three teens graduate from Police Explorer program

Share

Three teens received awards this month for successfully completing the Glendale Police Explorers Program, which gave them a first-hand look at what it’s like to be an officer.

Brian Nersesian, 17, and Aram Derderian, 15, of Glendale and Harut Bandikyan, 17, of Los Angeles are the latest graduates of the Glendale Police Explorers program that’s targeted toward 14-21-year-olds who have an interest in a career in law enforcement.

As part of their experience, explorers go on ride-alongs with officers and fly in police helicopters, but there’s also a big portion of time spent in the classroom. For 16 weeks at the San Gabriel Valley Explorer Academy, participants took classes in criminal law, firearms, handcuffing techniques and more.

For his hard work, Harut was named Honor Cadet, receiving the Randy Phillips Memorial Award. He also received first place in academics, an honorable mention in physical training and keeping a detailed notebook.

Brian received a third-place trophy for boys’ physical training and an honorable mention for his notebook.

Aram received a second-place trophy for his academic achievements.
