Two people were arrested Saturday during a sobriety checkpoint as Glendale police continued an effort to crackdown on drunk driving.
Police stopped roughly 1,000 vehicles at the checkpoint at Glenoaks Boulevard and Spazier Avenue, however, only two motorists were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, police said.
Officers also arrested a motorist for allegedly driving without a valid license.
Last year, police arrested 970 motorists for drunk driving, according to the Glendale Police Department’s latest crime statistics.
That number was down 18% from 2012, when officers arrested 1,183 motorists for the same offense.
The Police Department received a $150,310 grant last year from the state Office of Traffic Safety to pay for 12 DUI checkpoints scheduled between October 2013 and Sept. 30 of this year.
