Wind advisory issued for Los Angeles County mountains

Weather officials have issued a wind advisory through Tuesday afternoon for most of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, with gusty winds possibly hitting 60 mph in some areas, creating elevated fire danger.

The surf will also be a bit elevated but “nothing approaching high surf conditions” like there are along the Central Coast, said meteorologist Richard Thompson of the National Weather Service in Oxnard.

According to the wind advisory, north to northeast gusts in L.A. and Ventura county mountains will mostly be between 45 and 55 mph, with isolated gusts around 60 mph, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Winds are expected to be a bit weaker in the coasts and valleys, with gusts between 35 and 45 mph.

The combination of winds, low humidity and dry conditions will create brief periods of “elevated fire danger,” the National Weather Service warned.

Weather officials warned that drivers should be wary of cross winds.

As for temperatures in L.A. County, Thompson said Tuesday was “going to be the warmest day of the next several.” After that, “there’s definitely going to be a cool down,” he added.

Temperatures on Tuesday will range from the low- to mid-70s at the beaches and mid-70s to low-80s in the valleys.

The high temperatures this weekend will range from the 60s to low 70s. In some areas, like downtown L.A., cooler than normal temperatures are expected.

The normal for downtown this time of year would be around 70 degrees, Thompson said. The forecast for downtown L.A. calls for a high of 66 degrees on Saturday and 68 degrees on Sunday.
