Imposible olvidar

Powerful!! #ImmiGrad @laurawwrrr_: "I grew up in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by endless fields filled with crops. I had no nearby neighbors so my best friends were my doggies (shoutout to Spike and Tiny Weenie Weenie haha). Playing in the mud and climbing tractors was the norm. Like a little beast, I would roam the vegetable-filled acres. I would walk to the vineyards when I was craving grapes and get in the reservoir when it was too hot (I know, it was not safe lol). Because my parents were always busy working in the fields to make end's meet, I was usually left under the care of someone else. My older siblings were in school, so they also couldn't watch over me all the time. Everyone made sacrifices in order to get by. It was lovely growing up in the countryside but many times I felt isolated and alone. At the age of 10 I moved to King City, a small rural town which was populated with about 11,000 people at that time. Now, I am about to complete my undergrad at UCLA. I came from a tiny town, to now living in a city filled with millions. I am grateful for my humble beginnings. I have a deep appreciation and love for agriculture because that was my family's lifeline. Ag is life in more ways than one. I am the youngest of four siblings, and the only one who was lucky enough to attend a four-year university. I may not have everything, but I make the best out of what I have. Everything I do is for my family...For my parents who sacrificed so much for us...For my sister and two brothers who also did the best with what was available to them... & finally, for my little nephews and nieces in hopes that one day, they too, dare to dream big As a first-generation student, I hope to inspire them to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals." #firstgenerationcollegestudent #HereToStay #ImmiGrads #UCLA #bruinpride
