Computer lab meets weekly

Basic Computer Assistance taught by Marianna Spoelder will be offered from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Thursdays in July and August at the Susi Q Senior Center, 380 Third St.

The course will provide basic computer assistance for individuals who just need a few questions answered or want to learn how to use a PC with a Microsoft XP Operating System and be introduced to the basics of word processing, e-mail, digital photo (including Picasa software and downloading to a flashdrive), and the Internet/Google. Cost is $10 per session.

Birthday Celebration Bingo

The National Charity League is sponsoring a monthly Birthday Celebration Bingo event at the Susi Q from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. the third Wednesday of the month. All are welcome to join an hour of bingo, prizes, light refreshments and birthday acknowledgements. This is a free event.

Getty Villa excursion

Join the Susi Q on an excursion to the Getty Villa in Los Angeles for a Sept. 23 presentation of “Elektra,” the Greek tragedy by Sophocles starring Olympia Dukakis. A chartered Silverstate Coach bus will leave about 4:30 p.m. for the 8 p.m. showing of “Elektra.” Cost is $60 for members and $65 for non-members. Price includes bus fare and entry ticket. Ballroom dancing classes held

Candi Davis will teach ballroom dancing from 2 to 3 p.m. every Monday at the Susi Q Senior Center, 380 Third St.

Both singles and couples are welcome to participate. Cost is $5 per session. To register, call (949) 497-2441.

Freethinkers meeting

Laguna Beach Freethinkers Discussion Group has new summer hours, meeting from 1:30 to 3 p.m. every Friday. This open discussion group emphasizes the positive aspects and advantages of open-mindedness. Discussion topics will be suggested by attendees. Free.

Braille Institute support group

The Braille Institute holds a monthly support meeting from 1 to 3 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month for those suffering from some form of vision loss. Free.

Alzheimer’s Caregiver group

Join an informational meeting and informal discussion at the Susi Q from noon to 1:30 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month. Discussion includes how to recognize the early signs of Alzheimer’s and dementia and sharing strategies for dealing with loved ones affected by the disease. Facilitated by Vic Mazmanian, Alzheimer Assn. volunteer and support group leader. For more information, call (949) 497-2441.

De-mystifying Medicare

The Council on Aging, Orange County HICAP Program provides free one-on-one counseling and advocacy with Medicare and related insurance coverage from noon to 2:15 p.m. the fourth Monday of the month in the Wellness Room at the Susi Q Senior Center, 380 Third St. Call (949) 497-2441 for an appointment.

Sally’s Fund offers transport

Laguna Beach seniors may obtain a ride to the Susi Q Senior Center for lunch or activities by calling Sally’s Fund at (949) 715-1866. Those seeking rides should call ahead of time to make sure they can be accommodated. For all other services, such as transportation to doctor appointments, physical therapy, grocery shopping and errands, call (949) 499-4100.
