Meet the Mayor

Newport Beach Mayor Nancy Gardner will appear at a Corona del Mar Chamber of Commerce luncheon at Five Crowns, 3801 E. Coast Hwy., Corona del Mar. Health & Wellness Workshop

'Zen JumpStart'

The Zen Center of Orange County, 120 E. 18th St., Costa Mesa, offers a five-session "Zen JumpStart" for people who want to learn about the meditation practice. Improv Jazz Concert

Dutch drummer Han Bennink, along with violinist/violist Mary Oliver, bassist Mark Dresser and trombonist Michael Dessen, will perform a free concert at 7 p.m. in Room 218 of the Music and Media Building at UC Irvine's Claire Trevor School of Arts. The program is being presented by the school and its music department, whose faculty includes Dessen.

T. Jefferson Parker

'National Theatre Live: Collaborators'

The Irvine Barclay Theatre, in association with Arts Orange County, presents "National Theatre Live: Collaborators," a play about Russian writer Mikhail Bulgakov and his being commissioned to write a play to celebrate Joseph Stalin's 60th birthday. 'Yoga in Nature'

Lecture on Stroke Prevention

UC Irvine's Center for Neurobiology of Learning and Memory presents "Protecting the Brain from Impending Stroke: A Stimulating Account," a free lecture by a UCI professor Dr. Ron D. Frostig. The event is at 7:30 p.m. at the Irvine Barclay Theatre, 4242 Campus Drive, Irvine.

Slime Time is Here

Children ages 7 to 12 can take part in "Slime Time," a program involving hands-on experience with slimy animals and slime, which will be led by naturalist Meghan Lockwood. Cost is $10 per student.
