Transit of Venus

The Orange Coast College Astronomy Club will be setting up solar telescopes near the OCC Planetarium so that people can view the transit of Venus. The best time to view the transit is between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m., and the telescopes will stay up until 8 p.m. OCC is at 2701 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa.


'Inner Visions' at the Irvine Museum

The Irvine Museum presents "Inner Visions: Women Artists in California." General admission is $5. Children, students and seniors get in for free. 'Do the Right'

Woody's Wharf and friends will host "Do the Right," an auction in memory of Kirk Howe to benefit Jenny and Jillian Howe. The auction is at 6:30 p.m. at Woody's Wharf, 2318 Newport Blvd., Newport Beach. Documentary Screening

"Mother India: Life Through the Eyes of the Orphan" will screen at 7 p.m. Wednesday at RockHarbor Church, 345 Fischer Ave., Costa Mesa, and at 7 p.m. Friday at Newport Mesa Church, 2599 Newport Blvd., Costa Mesa. Veterans Courtyard of Honor

Vanguard University, 55 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa, dedicates its Veterans Courtyard of Honor with special guest Ret. Adm. Vernon E. Clark at 4:30 p.m. A VIP reception is from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The courtyard is a symbol of gratitude to those who have served in the military.


Remembering Professor Rowland

UC Irvine dedicates the Rowland Hall Exhibit, highlighting the life and work of Professor F. Sherwood Rowland, starting at 1 p.m. with a lecture by Professor Donald R. Blake in the Student Center, Pacific Ballroom D, A311 Student Center, Irvine. A reception and toast follows at 3 p.m. at the entrance to Rowland Hall. For more information, visit ps.uci.edu/



Clambake Fundraiser

Children's Bureau, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit, hosts its Clambake from 6 to 10 p.m. at Oak Creek Golf Club, 1 Golf Club Drive, Irvine. Tickets for the Clambake, a semi-casual event featuring inspired cuisine, a live auction and dancing, are $250 per person. Register at http://www.all4kids.org. All of the net proceeds go toward Children's Bureau prevention programs.

Alex's Lemonade Stand

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. the Irvine Spectrum, 71 Fortune Drive, Irvine, hosts Alex's Lemonade Stand in memory of John Taggart. The stand in Carousel Court will offer lemonade, fresh baked goods and a complimentary carousel ride. For more information, call (949) 753-5180.


Relay for Life

Costa Mesa's Relay for Life kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday at Estancia High School, 2323 Placentia Ave. This 24-hour fundraiser commemorates those lost to cancer while honoring those who have survived it. For more information, call (800) ACS-2345 or visit http://www.RelayForLife.org.

OC BBQ & Music Festival

The O.C. Fair & Events Centers hosts the fifth annual OC BBQ & Music Festival, a fundraiser featuring more than 70 award-winning barbecue teams plus beer and wine tastings. Scott Slater, owner of Slater's 50/50, has issued a challenge for teams to create a unique burger recipe fit to be served in his three Southern California restaurants. The festival also includes a concert by Sugar Ray, "American Idol" finalists and Mr. BBQ Pageant. The festival is from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $15 for one day or $25 for both. Children get in for $10 per day, with those younger than 2 admitted for free. Parking is $5 for general and $8 for preferred.
