‘Death by China’ at South Coast Cinema

The Laguna Beach Film Society is screening “Death by China” at 7 p.m. Thursday at South Coast Cinema, 162 S. Coast Hwy. The documentary “explores the impact of American’s outsourcing of manufacturing to China,” according to a press release.

Lagunan and UCI economics professor Peter Navarro directed and produced it. The screening will also feature and question and answer session with Navarro.

Tickets are $10 at the door, $5 for students with I.D. and $20 for a prescreening wine-and-appetizers reception at 6 p.m. at Laguna Art Museum, 307 Cliff Drive.

Open Mic taking place Sunday

Dime stories Open Mic is taking place at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Laguna Culinary Arts, 845 Laguna Canyon Road. The event is open to everyone and it’s not required that a person reads.

Those interested in reading should bring a three-minute piece of original prose to read aloud. Sign-ups start at 5 p.m. The host will be Ed Kaufman. For more information, email ocdimestories@gmail.com.

Museum hosting open house for educators

The Laguna Art Museum is hosting an educators’ open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Educators will get a chance to view the current fall exhibitions, learn about educational programs at the museum from Marinta Skupin, the new curator of education, according to the museum’s website. The event is free and exhibition-related classroom materials will be handed out. There will be complimentary refreshments and live music by Nicholas Yrizarry.

The museum also will host member appreciation from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 23 to 25. Members will receive 20% off items in the museum’s store and nonmembers will receive 10% off.

Craft Guild displaying wares Sunday

The Laguna Craft Guild is hosting its art show from 9 a.m. to sundown Sunday on the cobblestones of Main Beach. More than 30 artists will exhibit unique and handmade wares from painters, glassblowers, textile artists, potters, jewelers and others.
